    Misawa’s Family Child Care (FCC) program prides itself in providing high quality child care and supporting our community. The program provides care for children ages two weeks to 12 years in military and civilian families who live in on-base housing. The highly versatile FCC program lineup focuses on full time, part time, drop-in care, evening, shift, weekend and short-term care during TDYs. We also have expanded FCC programs available including subsidy, extended duty care (EDC), returning home care (RHC), and care for PCS and volunteers (more information at right).
    All FCC providers are licensed child care professionals who have completed an extensive licensing process. Each provider is required to complete a background check, a pre-licensing process, and home inspections before receiving approval from the 35th Mission Support Group Commander.
    Providers must meet additional requirements, which are equally stringent, to maintain their status as a licensee.

 

Compliance with Air Force standards during unannounced monthly home visits, completing a multitude of Air Force training modules, and attending required annual training are each important parts of the process.

IMPORTANT:
    Only licensed providers may provide care in government quarters. It is illegal for anyone in government quarters to provide more than 10 hours of care in a week or any amount of care on a regular or recurring basis. Failure to comply could result in loss of base housing privileges.

Pre-Licensing Briefing

Please call the FCC office or visit us for more information on how to become a licensed child care provider. Attendance at the Pre-Licensing Briefing is mandatory for enrollment in the New Provider Training.

Family Child Care Programs:

Extended Duty Family Child Care Program
Offers additional child care services when they are needed due to mission-related responsibilities. You may be eligible if you are required to work beyond the 40-hour work week and are already purchasing 50 hours of child care. At least one parent must be a member of the U.S. military service, active duty, reserve or guard member on active duty, dual employed (married to civilian), DoD civilian employee, or DoD contractor. Interested parents must contact the FCC Coordinator for information on qualifications and required paperwork. Parent must provide written verification of need from their supervisors. Returning Home Care
Welcome home to those returning from recent deployments! If you were deployed for 30 days or more, the Family Child Care Program is pleased to offer you and your family 16 hours of free child care per child under age 12. It is open to all ranks and branches. This benefit is only good during the first 30 days after returning to Misawa. Contact the child care office at 226-CARE (2273).

Family Child Care for PCS and Volunteers
The Air Force Aid Society recognizes the importance of volunteers to the Air Force Community and pays up to $280 month per family of free childcare for Air Force spouses who desire to volunteer in official organizations at Misawa. All Air Force personnel that PCS in or out of Misawa are eligible for 20 free hours of child care per child within 60 days of their arrival/departure. Members need to take a copy of their orders to the Airman Family Readiness Center,  who will give the member a certificate for the free 20 hours. For more information regarding these two programs please contact the Airman Family Readiness Center at 226-4735

Subsidy Program
The Family Child Care subsidy program will help working parents find high quality and affordable child care services.  Parents seeking full time child care services will be set in one of the six categories based on the family’s total annual income and pay the same rates in FCC homes as they would at an one of the child care centers or school age programs at Misawa. Families eligible for the subsidy program at Misawa are active duty members, and DOD employees, who are on the waiting list for the child development center. Additionally, the subsidy program is offered to dependents with special needs, and dependents needing child care services during swing and midnight shifts.
