Repairs, Maintenance, Inspections, and More!

If you need a reliable mechanic to handle your car repairs and vehicle maintenance, then come to the Services Auto Center's "Pit Stop Garage." Our eight-bay car care center is conveniently located adjacent to the main base gas station. We perform repairs, maintenance, and other services for your vehicle such as oil changes, tune-ups and tire rotations -- just to name a few!
Other services include Car Winterization, Vehicle Pre-Buy Check, and Japanese Compulsory Inspection (JCI).
JCI is a safety inspection required for all cars registered in Japan, and must be renewed every two years. The Pit Stop Garage can do this inspection, along with the requisite paperwork and registration updates. Because JCI inspections are very thorough, they often require repairs on inspected vehicles.
To allow time for repairs, inspections should be scheduled at least 30 days prior to the date of expiration listed on the vehicle’s title. JCI appointments are available at 7:30 am, Monday through Friday. JCI prices range from ¥40,830 to ¥61,330. The Auto Center charges an additional $90 for the inspection, which does not include repairs.
The Services Auto Center can do JCI on motorcycles, too. The cost is ¥22,370 plus $50 for bikes over 250cc. If you have an upcoming JCI inspection, the Pit Stop Garage is here to help.

 IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
The Services Auto Center Pit Stop Garage cannot
do first-time inspections on any vehicle imported
to Japan.
The Services Auto Center Pit Stop Garage does not mount low-profile tires. (Go to the Auto Hobby Center for mounting & repairs.)
All hazardous materials (gas, oil, antifreeze, etc.) must be disposed of properly. Please do not dump hazardous materials at the Auto Center. Call 226-2306 to make an appointment for the disposal of your hazardous materials or stop by building 977.

How to Junk Your Vehicle

  1. Find a local junk/car dealer (off base) to take your vehicle.
  2. Make sure the dealer gives you a receipt listing the year, make, model and vin (serial number).
  3. Remove the base decal, both license plates and the title. Bring these to Pass & Registration office to obtain de-registering forms.
  4. Take the de-registration forms to a local insurance agency or the land transportation office (LTO) for de-registration.
  5. You will be instructed to pick up your de-registered title on a specific date. Return it to the Pass & Registration office.
  6. You may be able to get a refund on your unused JCI, road tax, or liability insurance. After completing de-registration, contact your local insurance agency for the refund forms. To receive a refund for JCI from the Services Auto Center, the car must have had the JCI done there.
  7. NOTE: If you fail to properly de-register your vehicle from the LTO and Pass & Registration office prior to departing Misawa Air Base, you will be liable for any impoundment and junking charges.
