Do-It-Yourself Car Maintenance and More!
    The Auto Hobby Center is a do-it-yourself car-care facility located across the street from the main base gas station. All you need to get started working on your car is a safety card issued by the Auto Hobby Center. Free safety classes, usually lasting only 15 minutes, are offered Tuesdays & Thursdays at 5 pm and Saturdays at 2 pm. Once you’ve completed the class and receive your safety card, you are welcome to work on your vehicle in one of the six stalls -- no tools needed. Just bring yourself and your car!
    Before buying a car in Misawa, be sure to bring it by the Auto Hobby Center for a Pre-Buy Inspection. Have the car inspected by our staff before you buy it and we’ll help you determine what repairs are needed so you can decide if you’re getting the best deal for your money. You'll be glad you did!
    When it comes time to sell or buy a vehicle, the Lemon Lot is the way to go. Call 226-4654 to get listed -- this FREE service advertises your auto here at 35FSS.com and on 35FSS Channel 15!
    On or off base, if you ever need a tow, call the Auto Hobby Center at 226-4654 for a pick-up or jump start service. You can also use their fully-equipped facility to perform your own auto repair and maintenance.

    A focus group is a forum in which a group of 8 – 12 people is asked about their attitudes torwards a product, service, concept, advertisement, idea, or packaging. Questions will be asked in an interactive group setting where participants are free to talk with other group members.

Vehicle Junking Procedures

If you need to junk a vehicle that costs too much to fix, just follow these simple procedures! There are no fees to pay at the junk yard! In fact, the junk yard will give you approximately 2000¥ for scrap metal, and will also give you the proper documents to take to Pass & ID to de-register your vehicle from the base.
 

If your vehicle is still drivable and still has current JCI, you can simply drive it to a local
junk yard.
 

If your vehicle is not drivable, contact the
Auto Hobby Center at 226-4653 to schedule
an appointment to tow your vehicle to a local junk yard.

 Leave your lights on in the rain and now your car won't start? Take advantage of Auto Hobby's jump starting service!

Classes Available from the
Auto Hobby Center

Automotive Familiarization Class
Mondays, 12:30 - 2 pm / $20 / No supplies needed
You’ll learn:
- How to check vital fluids on your vehicle
- How to check and replace your air filter
- How to determine proper tire size and air pressure
- Where to find the spare tire and emergency tire
  changing equipment
- How to change a flat tire
- How to properly jump start a vehicle with a dead
   battery

Oil Changing Class
Mondays, 11 am - 12:30 pm
$20 for gasoline engine / $26 for diesel engine
You must bring your own oil filter, which can be purchased at the main base gas station. The Auto Hobby Center will supply the engine oil.

Safety Class - FREE
Tuesday s & Thursdays, 5 pm • Saturdays, 2 pm
This short 15-minute safety class is required before patrons can use the facility. No need to sign up in advance! Just show up during one of the times listed above, and we’ll get you started.

NOTE: Patrons must register and pay for all classes in advance (except for the Safety Class). No refunds will be given unless they are requested five days before the class starts. If the class is canceled by the instructor or if there are not enough students, the customer can request a refund or simply stay on the list until the next scheduled class.

Need to get your JCI renewed?
Try the Auto Hobby Center’s “Do it Yourself” JCI program!
1.

Schedule a pre-inspection appointment at the Auto Hobby Center. For only $40, we’ll check to see if there are any items on your vehicle that need to be repaired so that your car will pass the JCI inspection.
2.
Either make these repairs yourself or take your vehicle to the shop of your choice for these repairs. (Cost of repairs will vary and will be the responsibility of the customer.)
3.
We will schedule an appointment for you to follow us to Hachinohe for the actual JCI inspection.
